KCCA unveils modern toilets to enhance sanitation services in the city
The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has unveiled eight modern toilets, marking a significant step towards enhancing sanitation services across the city.
These state-of-the-art facilities are part of the Kampala Water-Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project (KW-LVWATSAN), a commitment outlined in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) 2021-2026 manifesto. Implemented by the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), this initiative aims to address the urgent need for improved sanitation infrastructure.

Funded by the government of Uganda with support from development partners KfW and the French Development Agency (AFD), the project intends to construct a total of 64 toilets targeting public schools, markets, and informal settlements throughout Kampala.
During a ceremony held at Kiswa Primary School, Silver Mugisha, the Managing Director of NWSC, officially handed over the toilets to Dorothy Kisaka, the Executive Director of KCCA.
Expressing her gratitude, Kisaka emphasized the significance of these facilities, stating, "With this project, you have answered a critical need in our markets, schools, and public spaces for improved sanitation, aligning with our vision of a Smart city."
These facilities not only aim to enhance sanitation but also to relieve pressure on existing infrastructure and elevate overall hygiene standards.
Mugisha underscored the importance of the initiative, emphasizing its role in providing safe water and sanitation, thus ensuring improved services for all residents.
"This project reaffirms our commitment to delivering quality sanitation services to our community," Mugisha said.
A noteworthy aspect of the project is its multi-story design, featuring upper floors capable of accommodating businesses such as restaurants and cafeterias.
This innovative approach not only addresses practical needs but also fosters economic development within the city.
Jan Alber, Director of Kfw Office Kampala, commended the collaborative efforts between KCCA and NWSC, recognizing it as pivotal to the project's success. "This is exemplary work, and we anticipate seeing more innovative solutions," Alber stated.
The sanitation facilities handed over to KCCA include Kasanga Primary School, Mbuya COU Primary School, St. Paul Primary School, Police Children School, Mutundwe Primary School, Lubiri Primary School, Kiswa Market, and Centenary Park.
Local leaders, including Nakawa East Member of Parliament Nsubuga Balimwezo and Nakawa Division Mayor Paul Mugambe, were present at the event, underscoring the collective commitment to enhancing sanitation and hygiene standards within the community.
